Professor Tomasz Grodzicki, MD, Ph.D.

Professor Tomasz Grodzicki is a specialist in internal medicine, geriatrics and hypertensiology, holding the title of European Specialist on Hypertension. Since 2001 he has been the head of the Internal Medicine and Geriatrics Department of the Jagiellonian University’s Collegium Medicum Faculty of Medicine and the head of the Internal Medicine Clinical Ward of the University Hospital in Cracow. In the years 2002-2014 he was the national consultant in the field of geriatrics, between 2006-2008 he was the President of the National Executive Council of the Polish Society of Hypertension. He has co-authored about 200 publications in the field of hypertension, geriatrics and cardiology, including several handbooks. Professor Grodzicki is a member of many scientific and social organizations: Scientific Council of the Ministry of Health, Committee for Clinical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Medical Commission of the Polish Olympic Committee, National Executive Council of the Polish Society of Hypertension, European Academy for Medicine of Aging as well as Management Board of the European Union Geriatric Medicine Society. He is also a corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Michał Rutkowski graduated from the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning at the Technology University in Kraków, as well as he received post-graduate diplomas at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków and at the Cracow University of Economics.  He is a co-founder and President of the Polish Association of Angioedema Patients’ Aid ‘Swelling Beautifully’, and diagnosed patient with HAE type I. Michal Rutkowski has been involved in HAE advocacy for over 13 years, initially in his home country, and since 2011 internationally, representing International Patients Organization for C1-Inhibitor Deficiencies, HAE International, as a Vice President. In early 2016 he was appointed as a Regional Patient Advocate, responsible for Central and Eastern Europe. Outside of Patients’ Advocacy activities, he deals professionally with architecture and automotive. Michał Rutkowski is a member of National Chamber of Architects, International Motorcycling Federation (FIM), European Motorcycling Federation (FIM Europe) and board member of Polish Automobile and Motorcycling Federation.  His long-time commitment and significant activities in motorcycling sport were recognized in 2012, and he was honored, by the President of the Republic of Poland, with the Silver Cross of Merit.

Professor Krystyna Obtułowicz graduated from the Medical College of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, and she has been committed to her Alma Mater ever since. She is the allergist and the internal medicine consultant. She had been the founder and the head of the Clinical Allergology Department at the Jagiellonian University from 1994 to 2011. She used to be the Regional Allergology Advisor, as well as the head of the Chair of Toxicology and Environmental Diseases at the Jagiellonian University in the period of 2006-2011. In addition to the conventional interest in the range of allergic diseases, Professor Obtułowicz’s extraordinary passion has become an immune-mediated disease Hereditary Angioedema, and she is widely considered as the creator of the Polish school of HAE and the most experienced national expert in this background. Also, she is the originator of Polish National Hereditary Angioedema Center at the Clinical Allergology Center in the University Hospital in Kraków. Professor Obtułowicz has authored more than 300 publications as regards issues of allergology and HAE. She is a member of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI), Polish Society of Allergology, European Hereditary Angioedema International Working Group, Polish Association of Preventing from Allergic Diseases and Honorary Member of the Polish Association of Angioedema Patients’ Aid.  

Teresa Gugała

Teresa Gugała is a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at Collegium Medicum at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. She graduated in 1981, with a Doctor of Medicine diploma. In 1987 she obtained the first degree of medical specialization, and then in 1995 the second degree of specialization in otolaryngology. She worked at the Laryngology Clinic, and then at the Department of ENT at the Municipal Hospital Stefan Żeromski in Krakow. In 2000, she started working at the Non-Public Specialist Health Care Facility in Krakow as an ENT doctor, then, from 2004, to serve as the Head of the Non-Public Specialist Health Facility. For 20 years she also worked for the Deaf Youth Rehabilitation Department in Krakow. Then, for 10 years she was a court expert for the District Court in Krakow, and since 2010 she consults for the Social Insurance Institution in Krakow in the field of otolaryngology. Since the very beginning of the Polish Association of Angioedema Patients’ Aid Swelling Beautifully she has been involved in its activities as a co-founder and first in history President of the Board of the Polish HAE Patients’ Organization. 

Paulina Gugała

Paulina Gugała is an attorney at law, specializing in family and inheritance matters. She holds a law degree from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, as well as a postgraduate degree in the field of Competition and Consumer protection from the Institute of Intellectual Property Law of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. After passing the Bar, she was accepted by the Regional Bar Association in Kraków. She run her own legal practice and is fluent in English and French. She is also a certified court negotiator in family, civil and commercial matters for the District Court in Krakow. Since 2010, she has been a Board Member of the Polish Association of Angioedema Patients’ Aid Swelling Beautifully, supporting the association with her knowledge and legal experience. 

Estera Białek

Regional Patient’s Advocate of Swelling Beautifully

Estera Białek has been involved in Patients’ Advocacy since 2014. She is the youngest member of ‘Swelling Beautifully’ team, and she has been representing the organization as a Regional Patients’ Advocate and Coordinator for the last 2 years.  She has been directly responsible for supervising the local patients’ representatives, as well as she has been maintaining the contact with the HAE patients. In the extraordinary situations Estera is obliged to inform the board about the violations regarding patients’ rights and she submits requests of assistance coming from the members of Patients’ Association. She is diagnosed with HAE typ I, which helps her in communication with other patients, as she knows exactly their problems, needs and expectations.
